In a fast-paced campus environment, finding moments of peace can be challenging. That’s why Student Wellness launched Earthmind, a nature-based wellness program designed to help students reconnect with themselves and the world around them.
Offered in partnership with local nonprofit Backyard Abundance, Earthmind is a four-session workshop that uses nature as a tool for stress management and personal growth.

The program’s small-group format fosters a sense of community and reflection, offering students structured time to slow down, breathe, and be present. Student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Program outcomes
In post-program surveys, students reported that:
- 95% of participants said their personal well-being improved.
- 100% learned new skills or information.
- 95% planned to apply what they learned to their daily lives.
One student shared, “I felt very connected to the others at Earthmind and felt that I was given relief from my everyday that I didn't even know I needed.” Another reflected, “It was fun and good practice on mindfulness. Just having the structured quiet time was very nice. I found myself looking forward to it. Honestly, it helped to be sat down and told to do similar stuff to what my therapist suggested.”
The program also sparked personal insights and emotional healing. “I am grateful that I have taken this course as it has allowed me to connect with new people, childhood memories, and bring home cool stuff,” one participant noted.
Earthmind is grant funded, with support spread over three years. Student Wellness is actively seeking sustainable funding and donor support to continue offering this transformative experience.
"Earthmind expands how we think about well-being. It’s not just about managing stress—it’s about creating space for students to feel grounded, connected, and cared for in ways that are deeply personal and lasting." - Trisha Welter, Associate Director of Student Wellness
As Earthmind continues to grow, it stands as a powerful example of holistic care in action—meeting students where they are and guiding them toward greater balance, resilience, and joy.
