"The leadership activities I participated in gave me a good foundation of skills that helped me get a head start in my first job," said Chris Linn, University of Iowa and Division of Student Life alumnus. The Managment and Communication Studies major held several leadership positions in the Division of Student Life during his time at the University. Linn served as an Executive, Undergraduate Collegiate Senate and Vice President for University of Iowa Student Government (UISG), and as the Business Director for Dance Marathon.

These positions enabled Linn to apply what he learned in the classroom and compliment that knowledge by building professional skills that set him apart in the workplace. "It is hard to write a lesson or lessons down in words," said Linn. "The experience itself provides opportunities to build skills in teamwork, problem solving, conflict resolution, time managment and the ability to work with diverse people that will be valuable in a job."

One of Linn's fondest memories from college was raising one of the placards showing how much money Dance Marathon raised to help kids with cancer on stage during Dance Marathon's closing ceremony. Linn described his work with the people involved in the event from the IMU team, UIHC staff, and all the students, as an incredible experience.

Linn reminds current student leaders to take a moment to congratulate themselves and thank the people who helepd them get where they are today. "Remember that the year is going to fly by and you've got to make the most of every moment. So when the year is over, you can point to something and say, 'I made that better.'"
