Vice President For Student Life
Biography

Student success is at the core of everything we do in the Division of Student Life. An Iowa education centers on students' success in their academic endeavors, complemented by meaningful experiences outside the classroom, and supported by services that enable them to be included, safe, and healthy. Division staff members are collaborators, partners, facilitators, and supporters of the amazing student experience we provide to all Hawkeyes.

A truly special aspect of the work of Student Life is the relationship-rich environments we provide for students. The experiences we offer, including student employment and meaningful involvement, help with career discernment, connection, and skill-building. Residence halls and student organizations are life labs that enable students to develop and practice new competencies such as perspective taking, working as a part of a team, and having difficult dialogues. We provide a culture of care and help create conditions where mentoring can occur. Particularly for our students from underrepresented or traditionally marginalized identities, we provide an important sense of place and connection through the Cultural Centers, living learning or residence hall communities, and student care services. We work closely with undergraduate, graduate, and professional student leaders to ensure that our programs and services meet the needs of all students.

I’m proud to be a part of the Division of Student life and a lifelong member of the Hawkeye family. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have ideas for how we can improve the student experience, or better support our Hawkeye families. We are always striving to do better, and my door is always open!

Lead change through advocacy

Wednesday, October 14, 2020
We know that the coming election day has mobilized Hawkeyes across the political spectrum and we are excited to see so many students engaged in voting, political action, and activism. To support campus engagement in advocacy, perspective taking, and leading change, the divisions of Student Life and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion have connected with colleagues across campus to promote an array of programming through the Mindful and Engaged Hawkeyes initiative. A variety of lectures, discussions, social action activities, mindfulness sessions, deliberative dialogues encourage you to engage in advocacy, be active in your communities, learn from others' perspectives, and be inspired to lead change.
