What lessons from your UI leadership position were most relevant to your career life after college?

Through my student leadership positions, I was put into real leadership positions with real consequences, which is the only way to truly understand what it takes to be a leader. Not a day goes by in my career where I don’t draw on something I learned as a student leader.

Looking back on your student leadership position, is there anything you would have done differently?

Looking back, I wish I had fully realized that in the end, in leadership, it’s the people that matter most. The glory of achievements and success eventually fade, but the people you meet and the friendships you forge along the way is what you’ll have years after college.

If you could give current UI student leaders once piece of advice, what would it be?

Take advantage of the unbelievable number of leadership opportunities at the UI. They are relatively low risk in the grand scheme of things, can be related to about any interest of passion, don’t cost a lot to do, and will introduce you to people who will become friends and mentors for life.
