University Counseling Service (UCS) conducted an Outreach Needs Assessment over the course of the spring 2018 semester. The purpose of this needs assessment was to gather student perspectives about the types of outreach topics they would benefit from learning about and their preferred ways of obtaining this information. Key findings included:

  • 75% believed they would benefit from learning about anxiety management.
  • 60% believed learning about mental wellness and self-care would be beneficial.
  • Stress and anxiety management, self-care and mental wellness, and sleep hygiene are the topics students believed they would benefit from the most.
  • In-person presentations, web-based information, and drop-in appointments with therapists were the top preferred modes of learning about psychological information.
