When the new Student Disability Services (SDS) Lounge opened in fall 2024, it marked more than the unveiling of a physical space—it was the realization of a student-led vision for belonging and community.

Sparked by advocacy from student leaders in Undergraduate Student Government (USG) and disability-focused student organizations, the lounge was created to offer a welcoming, accessible environment where all students can gather, connect, and thrive.

Located in the University Capitol Centre, Room 1101, the lounge was designed with direct input from students. SDS conducted surveys and collected qualitative feedback to ensure the space met real needs. The result is a thoughtfully curated environment featuring low-sensory lighting, accessible seating and workstations, weighted pillows, and other supportive resources not commonly found elsewhere on campus. The SDS Lounge is more than a room; it’s a testament to what’s possible when students lead and the university listens.
