Current position: President, Multicultural Greek Council (MGC)
Education: Psychology, Nursing
Hometown: Denison, IA

Division of Student Life leader, Alejandra Gonzalez serves as President of the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), and previously served as Vice President for Programming. A current psychology major, Gonzalez was recently accepted into the University of Iowa’s nursing program and will graduate in 2015.

This semester, Gonzalez envisioned and successfully organized the MGC's first ever guest speaker. In collaboration with Campus Activities Board, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Allied Union, the MGC brought Shane Windmeyer, a leading author on gay campus issues, to the University of Iowa. Gonzalez had the honor of introducing him to the stage.

Gonzalez never expected to be the student leader she is today. "Thinking of my journey through college, I struggled my freshman year with academics and being shy, but I put myself out there by stepping into a leadership position. By working hard and staying open to experiences, it just got better," says Gonzalez. The MGC helped Gonzalez find a balance and learn to better manage her time, improve her public speaking, and become confident in herself.

When asked what her legacy will be after graduation, she responded, "My legacy will be more indirect, as if I'm still there. Present but not present." Gonzalez has helped pave the way for underrepresented groups, especially minority women, and is setting a positive example for future students.

Gonzalez will use her experiences from the Division of Student Life to continue empowering women and minorities in the professional world, where she wants to pave the way for Hispanics in the field of nursing.

Through the generosity of alumni and friends, the Vice President's Fund for Student Leadership Development is able to continue helping students like Alejandra engage in experiences both on campus and beyond Iowa City.
