Vera Barkosky is a Political Science and Ethics and Public Policy major from Ames, Iowa.
What is your favorite University of Iowa memory?
Last fall, I co-directed the 2022 Homecoming Parade, the largest student-run event on campus, alongside an awesome Executive Council! This annual tradition joins students, faculty, alumni, and Iowa City community members together to celebrate being a Hawkeye. It was a wonderful opportunity to deliver a visible and energizing event for all participants to rally around, as a source of pride.
What would you like to see changed in the world during your lifetime?
It is my hope to see an increase in the quantity, quality, and availability of food for all. I became passionate about food security during my internship at the World Food Prize Foundation in Des Moines, Iowa, whose mission is eradicating world hunger.
What is your go-to karaoke song?
My go-to karaoke song is "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen.
What is your secret talent?
I have been singing in choir ensembles since I was a little girl. I can sing in four different languages - English, French, German, and Italian!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten years, I hope to be working as an attorney alongside the nonprofit sector or leading a team of professionals within a global non-governmental organization. I plan to continue dedicating my time to philanthropic foundations committed to uplifting women and children around the world. I look forward to being an active Hawkeye alum!
