Heading home this November? Several transportation services operate between Iowa City and regional destinations during academic breaks. Students are encouraged to review options, make reservations early, and confirm pickup and drop-off locations before traveling.

The University of Iowa Student Government (USG) also maintains a page that may have additional options. Be sure to visit the transportation provider’s website or contact them directly for complete details.

Cedar Rapids airport shuttle

  • USG airport shuttle (CID ↔ Iowa City)

Ridesharing and carpools

  • UI Rideshare
Find or offer rides with other Hawkeyes through this secure, HawkID-protected platform—ideal for one-time trips during breaks.

Local and campus transit

These options may be useful in making connections between campus and connecting transportation points in the area.

  • Cambus (fare-free)
Fixed and on-demand routes connect residence halls, the IMU, UI Health Care Medical Center University, and the West Campus Transportation Center for easy transfers.
  • Parking and Transportation
Offers and supports several alternative transportation options for the campus community.
  • Free shuttle to the Coral Ridge Mall
Supported by Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) and University Student Government (USG). Free rides on Thursday and Friday nights for UI students to and from the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville.

Tips for traveling home

  • Book early—airport shuttles and buses fill quickly around breaks.
  • Double-check pickup and drop-off locations. Most services use the IMU or West Campus Transportation Center.
  • Check weekday vs. weekend schedules. Some routes, such as the 380 Express, operate only on weekdays.
  • Plan for late-night arrivals. Arrange rideshare or taxi pickup in advance if your flight or bus arrives late.
  • Leave extra time—weather and heavy travel can cause delays in November.
  • Keep essentials handy. Pack chargers, snacks, and medications in your carry-on bag.
