The Food Pantry and Clothing Closet at Iowa have moved to the ground floor of the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU). A grand opening will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at the new location in the IMU.
The Food Pantry at Iowa provides free, nutritious food and necessities such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap and other hygiene products.
The Clothing Closet at Iowa offers free quality new or used professional clothing.
Both organizations serve all members of the UI community—undergraduate, graduate, and professional students; postdocs; faculty; and staff.
“Fulfilling individuals’ basic needs is critically important to support their health and well-being, which in turn contributes to their ability to be productive, healthy, and successful university community members. We are grateful to campus and community partners who contribute to these efforts, enabling the Food Pantry and Clothing Closet student organizations in giving back to all in the community in such an impactful way,” said Angie Reams, associate vice president and dean of students.
Members of the university community who would like to use the services may visit their websites or locations to find out more.
The organizations have grown tremendously throughout the years and saw immense growth during and following the COVID-19 pandemic. The student organizations are supported by staff members in the Office of the Dean of Students, volunteers, and donations from generous partners and community members. The new space will provide the opportunity to better serve the increased demand within the UI community.
