Updated guidance for student engagement efforts and registered student organization activities

To preserve the critical university mission of student success, all student engagement efforts and registered student organization activities are strongly encouraged to be moved to a virtual format. We have a shared responsibility to the communities in which we live, learn, work, and serve. By limiting the number of students, employees, and community members involved with in-person activities we will reduce the potential exposure to and spread of the virus – not only through our student population but many of the vulnerable community members living in the greater Iowa City area.
Student behavioral expectations on and off campus

Good afternoon, on August 15, all students were notified of the Code of Student Life and the Accountability Procedure used to respond to allegations that students have engaged in behavior which may violate campus policies. In observing individuals on campus as residence hall students have moved in, and countless other students have moved to Iowa City, I want to acknowledge the high level of compliance seen on university property.

Every Hawkeye remembers their orientation experience. For most, it was an exciting time to explore the campus, choose classes, and meet fellow classmates. For this year's incoming students, however, orientation looks a bit different. Due to COVID 19, orientation has been moved online.

In the midst of these challenges, University Housing and Dining continues to be a leader in adapting to meet the needs of students and ensure that individuals who are unable to return home are safe on campus. From an expedited move out, to take-out style dining, and higher cleaning standards in the residence halls, housing and dining is committed to maintaining a safe environment even in uncertain conditions.

Natvig named director of Student Health

Paul Natvig, M.D., has been named director of Student Health at the University of Iowa. Natvig, who has been serving in the role in an interim capacity since 2017, will officially begin his new role on June 1, 2020.

The Hawkeye Student Organization Leadership & Service Awards nominations and applications are available each year to the over 500 organizations on campus. A team of volunteers read and judge all nominations.

Mental health struggles are common among college students, but individuals are often reluctant to seek help. Now, leaders from some of the University of Iowa’s Fraternity and Sorority community are launching an initiative to de-stigmatize some of the most common issues faced by their members.

James Hughes is a senior at the University of Iowa studying Marketing Management. He served as Assistant Parade Director in 2018 and Director of Marketing in 2019 on the UI Homecoming Council. For the past three years, he has also been working for University of Iowa's Parking and Transportation employment center as a Cambus driver.

Morgan Smith is a senior at the University of Iowa studying marketing. She joined the Iowa chapter of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority in the Fall of 2016 – her first semester at Iowa. Since her time in the organization, she has had the opportunity to be the Vice President of Membership Experience and Vice President of Event Management.
