The Mirage celebrates diversity and inclusion

Rainbow pride, drag performers, an infostravaganza, and a condom casino filled the 2nd floor ballroom in the Iowa Memorial Union on December 1st, 2017. The Mirage, now in its sixth year, celebrates and encompasses diversity and inclusion, and provides students with sexual health information and campus/community resources. The Mirage had record attendance in 2017 with 1,386 participants.

The event kicked off with a sexual health information fair featuring over 21 organizations and offices. Throughout the night, 49 people took advantage of the free HIV testing provided by Johnson County Public Health. The second half of the event featured an entertaining night of drag with performances by students and Iowa City professionals.

The Mirage is truly a collaborative effort, bringing together a variety of campus departments and student organizations who are dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming space. Division of Student Life departments involved in the planning of the event include Student Health and Wellness, the Women’s Resource and Action Center, and the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership.
