Student Legal Services creates Student Advisory Board

Student Legal Services (SLS) exists to serve the legal needs of University of Iowa Students. But how can they be sure that they are using their resources to address the most pressing legal needs of students? In addition, how can they be sure that they are communicating in the best way to get their message to the students that most need to hear it? This was the question that SLS posed to itself last fall, and subsequently created the Student Advisory Board (SAB).

The SAB is a volunteer board comprised of University of Iowa Students who provide valuable feedback on the current legal needs of students, the best ways to reach students, and whether SLS’s efforts are meeting their needs in both those areas. SAB meets with the SLS Staff once a month. Thanks to the SAB, SLS was able to update its social media strategy to compliment the way students use social media in 2019. In addition, SLS began scheduling regular late-night hours, staying open until 7:00 PM on Mondays.

SLS considers the creation of the SAB to be a great success, and is looking forward to continued successful collaborations with the SAB in years to come! SLS would like to convey a special thanks to SAB members Ellen Burns, Hailey Driskell, Dilon Goncalves, Jenci Muniz-Mendoza, Jordyn Ramsey, Lauryn Schnack, Alexandra Skores, Ronald Slawek, Javon Stovall, Emma Myers, Mariah Roller, and Hugh Theut.
