Student Disability Services actively involved in recruiting students to UI

Student Disability Services is actively involved in recruiting students who have a disability and are considering the University of Iowa for their college education.  Prospective students and their families are often surprised to learn about the many support services available on our campus and have a much better idea of how our campus may fit with their particular needs.

Each year representatives of SDS attend college fairs for high school students with disabilities to represent what the University of Iowa has to offer.  These fairs are well attended and give parents and families the opportunity to visit with representatives of a number of colleges and universities at the same time.

Dr. Mark Harris, the SDS Director, recently gave the keynote address at one such event, the Directions College Fair in Arlington Heights, Illinois.  Dr. Harris presented on “The Top Mistakes Parents Make During the Transition to College.” This presentation preceded the college fair and was designed to provide a framework for parents and families in their assessment of possible options regarding college.
