Sammy Stoll: UI Homecoming Court 2018

Sammy is a senior from Cedar Falls Iowa majoring in psychology.

What is a favorite memory from the University of Iowa?

During my sophomore year, a Resident Assistant that I worked with was a huge Hawkeye football fan. We would sit as close to the front as we could and she would always wear her game-day bibs. She graduated that year and actually gave me her bibs, which I made her sign the inside of in permanent marker. Now that I'm graduating, I'm hoping to hand down the bibs again to another RA to remember all the fun I've had in those bibs and to create a tradition of my own.

If you had a superpower for one day, what would it be?

Teleportation. In 24 hours, I could technically visit every single country in the world for 7.4 minutes.

Why do you want to be a part of Homecoming Royalty?

To say thank you to Iowa and its students for what they have done for me. I wanted to show that without the amazing student leaders, co-workers, residents, and faculty who have motivated me to pursue opportunities and take part in the traditions here at Iowa, that I would not be who I am today.

What would like to see changed in the world during your lifetime?

Empathy. If I could develop a way to effectively teach all people to incorporate empathy into their everyday lives I think the world would be a better place all around. I would hope this would help to de-stigmatize mental illness and changing how people view mental health.

If you had the chance to redo one year on campus, which year would it be, and what would you do differently?

I would redo my junior year fall semester. Although I am grateful for what I learned about myself as a person during that time, I wish I would have been more intentional reaching out to friends rather than exhausting myself and prioritizing work and school over friendship. It's important to not forget the relationship aspect of being a successful student.

What is a fun fact that no one knows about you?

I have the same birthday as the University of Iowa, and we are exactly 150 years apart! I think of Homecoming as my birthday present after 4 years of not getting a shoutout on twitter.
Iowa Homecoming is a week where the community comes together to celebrate Hawkeye pride. This year, we celebrate the hundredth anniversary of Nile Kinnick's birthday. For more information on homecoming, visit
