This fall University Housing & Dining hosted the annual ‘Amazing Room Contest.’ This contest is open to all residents who live on campus. The contest allows students to display the creativity throughout their room, win prizes, and engage with staff from University Housing & Dining. Students submitted entries by sending the marketing team several photos of their room and a short paragraph on what inspired the design of their room.
“We wanted to make the most of our spacious Stanley room, by not only utilizing it for sleeping but also for a welcoming environment where people can just come and hang out.”
The marketing team received 129 entries in total. Eleven finalists were chosen (one from each residence hall). The marketing team then had the opportunity to meet with the students, view their space and conduct a photoshoot of their room with a university photographer. Students won a variety of prizes throughout the contest including: a coupon for coffee, a pizza party, and Hawkeye dollars. The grand prize winners won a $200 Amazon gift-card. “We wanted our room to feel less like a dorm room and more like a homey space that felt festive, hence the color changing lights and paper lanterns,” says grand prize winners, Cristina Gunther and Alyssa Pegler. “We wanted to make the most of our spacious Stanley room, by not only utilizing it for sleeping but also for a welcoming environment where people can just come and hang out.”
