Living on campus at the University of Iowa provides students with numerous benefits including location, convenience, and a safe place to live. Many students choose to elevate their rooms by decorating it to show their individual style in order to create an environment they can thrive in during the school year.

Through our annual Amazing Room Contest, University Housing and Dining can recognize students who went above and beyond in creating their personal space. Students who enter the contest are able to highlight their unique personality and style through their décor and organization choices in their residence hall room.

The Amazing Room Contest is open to all students who live in the residence halls. The 2021 Amazing Room Contest received 125 submissions, with all residence halls represented within those submissions. Students who entered the contest won a variety of prizes including a coupon for a smoothie, a pizza party, and Hawkeye dollars. 14 finalists were selected to be featured in a photoshoot of their room. These photos were distributed to a panel of University of Iowa faculty and staff, from various departments, to select our winner.

The 2021 winners were Anna and Lucie from Daum Residence Hall, who received the grand prize of a $200 Amazon gift card. “We wanted our room to be a warm, welcoming area where people feel comfortable to study and hang out in. Our room is a homey living area for people to spend time in. We picked an orange and yellow color scheme to create a bright and happy environment,” said Anna and Lucie.
