Emily Brannon: 2014 Homecoming Court

Emily Brannon is a senior studying Finance with a Certificate in Leadership Studies from Dubuque, Iowa. We asked each member of the 2014 Homecoming Court to let us know a little more about themselves.

What is one of your favorite memories at Iowa?

It is so hard to pinpoint my favorite memory because there have been so many wonderful moments during my time at Iowa. However, I definitely think that being a Hawkeye Guide for Orientation Services was one of the coolest experiences I had throughout my four years. Our “O-Team” family became incredibly close, and we had a blast every program working with incoming students and their guests. We started each program by entering the ballroom to the fight song, and I still get chills thinking about all of the excitement and Iowa spirit in the room!

What are three things on your bucket list?

1. Ride in a hot air balloon

2. Travel throughout Greece after graduation with my mom

3. See the Iowa Football team win a national championship!

If you could jump out of a plane, where would you want to land?

I already went skydiving the summer after my freshman year and landed somewhere in rural Wisconsin. However, if I could do it all over again I would love to land on the 50-yard line in Kinnick Stadium!

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

Most people don’t know that my family goes all out for Halloween, and has been doing so for three generations. At our home in Dubuque, Iowa we decorate inside and out, coordinate a themed group costume, and typically have over 1,200 trick-or-treaters every year (my dad literally tallies each kid!)

If you could go back to freshman year, what would you do differently?

I wouldn’t change a thing about my freshman year! Some of my most fond experiences at Iowa were during my first week on campus. From the White Panda concert, to the President’s block party, to meeting my best friends and current roommates in the hallway of Daum, it was a great time. I met some of my lifelong friends, got involved in great organizations, and truly found my new home. My one piece of advice would be to not be afraid to try something new, you never know what new passions you’ll find!
