Cesar Perez: UI Homecoming 2018

Cesar is a senior from Aurora Illinois majoring in psychology.

What is a favorite memory from the University of Iowa?

My favorite memory at the University of Iowa is my first homecoming week. I remember being a homecoming representative for my fraternity, and being in charge of them. I remember participating in Ruckus on the Rec, decorating our pairing's front lawn, and even riding on the float. It was my first leadership position on campus but definitely not my last.

If you had a superpower for one day, what would it be?

I would love the power to run super fast! It would be cool to travel the world in a day and not have to go on a airplane or have the hassle of traveling to a destination.

Why do you want to be a part of Homecoming Royalty?

I want to be a role model for many students on campus. As a first generation Hispanic student, I want people to know that you can do anything. It doesn't matter if you're white, black, Hispanic, disabled, or LGBTQ+, you can do anything. Getting to be part of Homecoming Royalty would mean everything to me. It would show that with hard work you can do anything no matter what your past is.

What would like to see changed in the world during your lifetime?

The lack of empathy is something I would like to see changed in the world. We need to start caring more about people and need to start understanding people.

If you had the chance to redo one year on campus, which year would it be, and what would you do differently?

It would be my first year of college. As a first year student, I didn't know what was happening. I should have gotten more involved with different student organizations and done more that year. If I was to do things differently now, I would have walked around my dorm more, participated more on campus, and been more comfortable around campus.

What is a fun fact that no one knows about you?

A fun fact about me is that one time I ate 3 whole pizzas by myself. It was really gross but it was good.
Iowa Homecoming is a week where the community comes together to celebrate Hawkeye pride. This year, we celebrate the hundredth anniversary of Nile Kinnick's birthday. For more information on homecoming, visit https://homecoming.uiowa.edu.
