Since 1912, Homecoming has celebrated the University and its students, faculty, alumni, and the surrounding community.

As Executive Director of the Homecoming Council, Airiana Mohr finds Homecoming an important part of being a Hawkeye. “Homecoming showcases what it means to be a part of the Hawkeye community, and all the components that go into that, whether it’s students on campus, faculty and staff, Iowa City community members, and alumni.”

This year, there are a variety of events for students to look forward to. On Sunday, October 23 (Hot) Dogs with the Deans will take place at Hubbard Park from around 3 - 5:30 p.m. Stop by for food, live music, games and an opportunity to talk with the Dean of Students’ team.

Two days later, on Tuesday, October 25th from 5 - 8 p.m., the Homecoming Council and the office for Multicultural & International Student Support and Engagement will be hosting the Multicultural Block Party. Show up outside of the Cultural Centers for food and entertainment.

Later in the week, on Thursday, October 27th at 7 p.m., the Homecoming Executive Council will host SHOUT, the annual spirit competition on the Pentacrest. The event will host an array of other performances and will announce 2022 Homecoming Royalty and its scholarship winners.

For many across campus, Homecoming harkens back to fond memories from previous years. Mohr, last year’s co-director of the Homecoming Parade, remembers riding through the parade route in a golf cart. “Seeing just how many people came out to Iowa City on a Friday night to watch the annual parade was a moment I will never forget and something that showed me just how much Homecoming means to the community.”

For Vice President of Student Life Sarah Hansen, the festivities mark an important anniversary. “Homecoming wraps up everything great about being a Hawkeye. And everyone has a favorite memory–mine is that my first date with my now husband of 35 years was the Homecoming Parade.”

This year's events present an opportunity for students to make lasting memories of their own.
