Anne Edwards is a senior from Dubuque, Iowa majoring in Global Health Studies.
What is your favorite memory from your time at the University of Iowa?
My favorite memory from the University of Iowa is volunteering at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics! I have been able to volunteer in six different unit placements there and have held several leadership positions. From playing games and doing craft activities with kids in the Children's Hospital, to watching medical procedures and even listening to patients play the piano, I have had the most wonderful and inspiring experiences volunteering and am so grateful for the opportunity!
If you had the chance to redo one year on campus, which year would it be, and what would you do differently?
I would want to redo senior year, although it hasn't finished yet! It has been fantastic so far but it's passing by in a blur, and I would want to relive these special moments in my final year at Iowa a little longer.
Why do you want to be a part of Homecoming Royalty?
Homecoming week at the University of Iowa is a time during the year in Iowa City where the whole campus and surrounding community is linked together, highlighting organizations and students who are doing wonderful things. Homecoming Royalty represent a hallmark group that help contribute to a spirit of community that makes Homecoming week so exciting, and I am so fortunate to be a part of it!
What would like to see changed in the world during your lifetime?
I would love to see people throughout the world attain better access to sustainable health care during my lifetime. There are many places, even in developed countries, that do not have the infrastructure for functioning health systems and improving access will hopefully benefit people now and in the future.
What is a fun fact that no one knows about you?
Not many people know that I love to take pictures of the sunset! My favorite spot is definitely at the Pentacrest and I have a whole album of sunset photos I've taken over my four years here.
If you had a superpower for one day, what would it be?
I think it would be incredible to be able to teleport. I would spend the whole day hopping from country to country, seeing all the places I have always wanted to go, or I might just spend the whole day at a beach!
