The mission of the Division of Student Life is to foster students success by creating and promoting inclusive educationally purposeful services and activities within and beyond the classroom.
About the Division of Student Life
The Division of Student Life (DSL) has three priority areas: Health & Safety, Multiculturalism, and Student Leadership Development. These are critical areas of student development that the Division’s departments are uniquely positioned to support. In each of these areas, staff members lead campus-wide, collaborative initiatives that are guided by assessment to measure outcomes and progress. DSL is a national leader in several areas, such as high-impact student employment, anti-violence work, and harm reduction. Our priority work is a critical component of meeting our mission.
Iowa GROW® (Guided Reflection on Work) uses brief, structured conversations between student employees and their supervisors to help students connect the skills and knowledge they are gaining in the classroom with the work they are doing, and vice versa.
To recognize leadership, learning, and loyalty, the tradition of awarding Hancher-Finkbine Medallions was established in 1964. Seven medallions are awarded annually, to four outstanding students, one professor, one staff member and a graduate who has attained special distinction.
