To demonstrate the impact of the Division of Student Life on the student experience Student Life Assessment, Improvement, and Research supports:

  • Strategic decision-making based on accurate, current data
  • Business Intelligence (BI) partnership
  • Communicating the impact of the co-curricular experience with the campus

The AIR supports access to current and accurate data to promote evidence-based decision making in the Division of Student Life and meet the University of Iowa’s strategic plan. The department, in partnership with DSL Information Technology Services (ITS):

  • Acts as an advocate for the Division of Student Life in campus data discussions
  • Promotes collaboration between the Division of Student Life and other campus data stewards
  • Secures data generated in the Division of Student Life
  • Supports training and skill development

Business Intelligence (BI) has become increasingly important on campus as we explore ways to become more efficient, effective, and competitive. BI can deliver greater insight into institutional performance, enable faster and more informed decisions, and provide information for agile response to opportunities and threats. AIR works with DSL ITS and ITS Data, Insights, and Analytics to support BI projects and use in the Division of Student Life. These solutions help us better understand and communicate how our work supports student success, retention, and persistence.

As the main driver of the student co-curricular experience it is the DSL’s responsibility to communicate the effects of students’ co-curricular experiences with campus and community stakeholders. Through various communication methods we will enhance understanding of the importance of the student experience, supporting internal and external resource acquisition and donor development.
