"Understanding is the first step toward improvement. Until you understand what is, you cannot identify a reasonable path toward what could be." - The Undergraduate Experience

The work of the Division of Student Life is a key driver in the university's strategic plan and the success of the University of Iowa.

We must innovate, bring forward new ideas, and think differently about the way we do our work in order to support the success of our students. Fostering a culture of creativity and innovation will require quantitative and qualitative data from across the Division to understand where we are so we can imagine where we want to be. Focusing on improvement also ensures we are accountable to our stakeholders by ensuring we are being good stewards of resources by providing effective programs and services. The Division of Student Life is focused on improvement through the regular assessment of programs and services as well as the regular review of our departments.

It is essential that our routine assessment practices are connected to action. Using our assessment results to make decisions and improve our programs and services ensures intentionality in our changes.
