Harm Reduction

The Division provides programs and services that assist students in developing and maintaining healthy lives. In particular, alcohol harm reduction is a strategic priority within the Division, and across the institution. UI students drink in substantively different ways and experience more negative consequences than college students nationally. Currently, we are working to achieve our harm reduction goals, outlined in our 2010-2013 Alcohol Harm Reduction Plan with the help of the Alcohol Harm Reduction Committee.

Alcohol Harm Reduction Committee

The Harm Reduction Committee works with the Division in supporting students who abstain or drink in low-risk ways, and assisting high-risk drinkers in becoming lower risk. The Committee advises the Vice President for Student Life on goals and metrics related to reducing harm due to alcohol use, and works alongside Iowa City area community members on projects and initiatives through the Partnership for Alcohol Safety.
