Staff Outreach

Division staff participated in a variety of ways within and outside of the University community in addition to their daily job functions. Our staff served leadership roles, made presentations at professional organizations, and also served on general charter committees, search committees, and the placement committee for new professional & scientific classification structure and the Downtown Association of Iowa City.

Academic Engagement

Twenty-six professional staff members contributed directly to the academic mission by teaching credit-bearing courses in University College, College of Education, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and the Tippie College of Business.

Learning and Development

A new collaboration with the Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) program resulted in ongoing brown bag sessions between faculty in this department and professional staff in the Division, providing an opportunity to share information, learn about current trends, and discuss topics of interest. The brown bag sessions will continue in the future at least once a semester. The majority of the 26 graduate assistant placements within the Division are students in the HESA program.

Vice President Rocklin held two Town Hall Meetings during the year for all permanent staff in the Division. These sessions were taped and made available on the Division website for those unable to attend. These meetings provided an opportunity to update staff on Division-wide initiatives and to ask questions of the Vice President. In addition, each month Vice President Rocklin invites a small group of randomly selected staff to meet with him for breakfast in Burge Residence hall. These sessions have no agenda and allow staff to ask questions and share information of interest to them. A reception for professional staff was held at the newly completed roof deck of the Campus Recreation Wellness Center where staff could meet staff from across the Division in an informal setting.
