The Division of Student Life fosters student success by creating and promoting educationally purposeful services and activities within and beyond the classroom.
Student success is the key to the best possible university experience. At the University of Iowa, we work to make succcess accessible for every student. During their time at UI, students develop skills and knowledge, become more mature in their thinking, assume greater responsibility for their own lives and learning, develop an understanding of diversity and multiculturalism, and become effective leaders.
Year in Review: Message from Tom Rocklin
In the fall of 2010, we welcomed the largest, mostdiverse, and most well prepared class we had ever admitted. What a great bunch of students we have at The University of Iowa! To go along with those great students, I get to work with an enormously talented and dedicated staff here in the Division of Student Life.
We focus on three broad themes in our work with students: leadership development; multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusion; and health and safety. As you look through this annual report, you’ll see examples from each of these themes. All the work we do with students, we do for one reason: to help students succeed. Success at the University of Iowa starts with students’ excelling academically. The Division’s participation in academic initiatives, as well as the work we do to keep students healthy and safe, helps students succeed in their classes and earn their degrees.
Success means a lot more than just earning a degree, though. What often sets students apart as they apply for jobs or graduate or professional school is what they did in addition to fulfilling the requirements for their degrees. That’s why we work so hard to create learning opportunities outside the classroom, and encourage students to engage in those opportunities.
